In this third and final episode, Dean returns to Brighton to get the band’s reaction to Miles Showell’s mastering. Jen talks of the perils of learning new basslines, Ken analyses the way the mastering has separated the instruments in the mix and enhanced clarity and punch, and the band go on to play a great live gig.

Interview with Miles Showell, senior mastering engineer at Metropolis Studios, Chiswick. Miles talks about all aspects of audio mastering. He describes “Reg” the studio he works in, and gives an account of different services and audio operations within the studio complex, explains why mastering is different from recording or mixing, how he keeps his ears “fresh”, and discusses 5.1 surround sound.
